"Do you think she knows," Aurora whispers to her sister Hattie. Standing at the top of a large staircase they are looking down at the new owner of their home.
"Shh, Aurora, she'll hear us." Hattie scolds. The new owner is too young to understand us, she thinks and sighs.
"What if she decides to sell?" Aurora is panicking, her voice quivers. All of this is annoying to Hattie.
"We'll figure it out, but if she hears you, we're screwed."
Aurora looks at her older sister and frowns. So bossy, she thinks, just because she's 10 whole months older. She considers stomping on her toes. Hattie never wears shoes. She turns and goes back into their room instead and sits on the floor. Hattie follows allowing the door to close softly behind her.
